So, this whole
Earth Hour thing sounds kinda cool.
Except that, you know, it used to be called
Earth Day, and we used to try and do more than turn off all the lights for an hour. In class, we'd do a whole unit about the Three R's and composting and water usage and pollution and changing our lifestyles to be more sustainable...
Yeah.
Not that I'm against turning out the lights and stuff for an hour. But, yknow, I'm just sayin'...it's gonna take a whole lot more than an hour without power to
save our planet.
Just sayin'.

It's true that most people are too lazy to do more than the minimum. And the organizers need to keep changing the event in order to keep up interest. Next up: Earth Minute.
However, I think Earth Hour helps raise awareness and getting people involved and allowing them to feel like they are making a difference encourages further participation, hopefully to a bigger degree.
When you feel like you can't make any difference (for me, the rainforest), it tends to propagate frustration, not action.
I was on show for earth hour, the director opened the show with "If you want to participate in earth hour you are welcome to close your eyes from 8 pm to 9pm while we continue
